I hear a buzzing sound on my car radio when using your car cord adapter. What can I do?

The  car cord adapter uses a special switching circuit to obtain such high power output in a very small package. As a result, the circuit can sometimes interfere with certain radio frequencies. Try tuning to a different station or move the car cord adapter as far as possible from the radio or its antenna.

I am trying to use your car cord adapter with my CD player, but I don't get any sound from my car stereo speakers. What's wrong?

The car cord adapter will only power the CD player. It will not make the CD player play over your car stereo speakers. You need a special audio adapter that plugs into the headphone jack or line-out jack on your CD player in order to listen to the player through your car stereo. These types of audio adapters are widely available at stores that carry CD players.

Can your car cord adapter be used to power my TV or DVD player that plugs into the wall?

Usually no, however, some small televisions, usually 5" or less, have a DC input option as well as a 120 VAC cord. If the TV has a compatible DC jack and requires less than 2000 milliamps of current, then the Car Cord Adapter can be used. The Car Cord Adapter only provides low-voltage DC current. To operate a television or DVD player which only has a 120 VAC input cord in your car, you will need a PowerLine DC to AC Inverter. This inverter will plug into your cigarette lighter socket and provide a 120 volt outlet to power the TV or DVD player. Be sure to choose an inverter that has a wattage rating that is the same or higher than the wattage rating on your TV or DVD player.

Why won't my Multi-Use AC to DC Adapter power my digital camera?

Some digital cameras require as much as 2000 milliamps of current in order to operate which exceeds the amount of power available from the adapter. Check with the manufacturer of the camera to determine how much power or current is required. If it is more than the rated current of the adapter, then the adapter can not be used.

How do I set the polarity on my AC adapter or car cord adapter?

Make sure you know the proper polarity for the device you are trying to power before plugging in the AC adapter or car cord adapter. The polarity is usually indicated by a symbol next to the plug jack on your device. If the polarity is not indicated it may also be found in the instruction manual for your device or by contacting the manufacturer of the device.

 

CAUTION: Do not connect the adapter to your device if you are unsure of the correct polarity requirements. It is the user's responsibility to determine the correct polarity for the device they are trying to power. Look for the part of the polarity symbol that is shaped like the letter "C". The open side of the "C" points toward the proper "tip" or "center" polarity.

I plugged your adapter into my device but it is not working. What should I do?

First, determine the proper voltage for your device. This may be printed on or molded in the plastic near the power jack on the product. If not, check the instruction manual for the product or contact the manufacturer to determine the correct voltage. If you do not know the required voltage, DO NOT PLUG IN THE ADAPTER, YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR PRODUCT.

 

Second, without attaching any of the plug tips to the adapter cord, determine which plug tip from the adapter fits your product by trying each one in the power jack on your product. Sometimes more than one will fit so pick the one that has the best fit. Third, determine the correct polarity for your product. This is usually marked on the product near the power jack. If it is not, check the instruction manual for your product or contact the manufacturer of your product to determine the correct polarity. DO NOT PLUG IN THE ADAPTER IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE CORRECT POLARITY, YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR PRODUCT.

 

If your product has a polarity symbol on it, look for the part of the polarity symbol that is shaped like the letter "C". The open side of the "C" points toward the proper "tip" or "center" polarity.

Once you are certain that the voltage and polarity are set properly, plug the adapter cord into your product and then plug the adapter into a wall outlet. If your product does not immediately power-up properly when switched on, unplug the adapter from the wall and review all instructions.

 

I know the voltage that my device needs, but I don't know the amount of milliamps. What should I do?

Check the instruction manual for your device or contact the manufacturer to find out the amount of milliamps required. Then, choose an adapter with a milliamp rating that is the same or higher than the device you are trying to power. Be sure that the voltage and polarity of the adapter are set to the proper settings for the device you are trying to power.

I don't know what voltage my product requires, how do I find out?

Sometimes the required voltage is marked on the rating label for the unit or next to the power supply jack. If it is not in either of these places, refer to the instruction manual for your product or call the manufacturer of the product.

 

As a last resort, refer to the battery chart here.

 

This will give an estimate of the voltage required based on the number of batteries the product uses. This is only an estimate and it is your responsibility to determine the correct voltage and avoid damage to your product. 

Can your AC adapter be used with my cordless phone (not cellular or wireless), caller ID, or answering machine?

Yes, as long as your device requires a DC voltage input. Some telephone devices require an AC voltage input and will not work with PowerLine adapters.

The device I am trying to power has a lower milliamp rating than your adapter. Will the adapter damage my device?

As long as the voltage and polarity are set properly, the adapter will not damage your device. Electronic devices only use as many milliamps as they need to operate properly. They will not use "extra" milliamps just because they are available. As an example, it is OK to use an adapter rated at 600 ma on a tape player that only needs 250 milliamps because the tape player will only draw 250 milliamps from the adapter.
